Your words are a point of activation yielding either favorable or unfavorable outcomes. The words you choose to release can be refreshing such as I expect an awesome day or I am grateful for the gift of life and I plan to live my life to its fullest potential. Can you see the hope and embrace the promise these words release? I am positive even challenging moments would not place a damper on your day if you started your day with life-giving words. If, however, you choose unsavory words such as Ugh! It’s Monday again. I know it will be a long day or It is a miserable day today, I am certain your words will produce a harvest of negativity. Negative words are experts at compounding an already taxing day to what feels like an unbearable existence.
Proverbs 18:21 reminds us that “Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit” (HCSB). Think for a moment about the words you use in the first five minutes of your day. Are they savory or salty? Are the words in your diet hearty or harmful? The words you release begin with your thoughts and manifest into words and actions. When is the last time you took an assessment of your words? Take a brief inventory of yourself while answering the following questions:
Do I like the way I think as a result of my word choices?
Do I like the way I behave as a result of my word choices?
Do I like the outcomes I am experiencing based on my word choices?
Give yourself transparently to God and allow the Holy Spirit to reveal areas where you need a tune-up in your vocabulary. Then, remain committed to aligning your words to God’s word. Are you prepared to witness the fruit in utilizing your words for your personal edification and the edification of others?
