I’d like to share an experience that taught me why we need to learn how to love ourselves. I believe it was 2nd grade when I got my ears pierced and discovered I couldn’t wear pierced earrings. In fact this funny looking scar, I later learned was a keloid, formed and it was a sight indeed.
When you hear the words mental illness what do you think? Does mental illness have a particular “face”? Do you think of someone who expresses abnormal behaviors? Do you think of someone who looks out of sorts? Do the words “strange” or “odd” come to mind? Many of us believe mental illness has a “look.”
Stress! It seems to be everywhere. We live in a high-paced, high-stress culture that celebrates burnout and scorns resting. Recently I was having a conversation with an employee about the planning I have done around my life. I don’t do stress or stressful situations well, so I have to be mindful of how I am using my time.
You don’t need to feel ashamed about struggling with anxiety. I used to because I was afraid to admit when I was having an anxiety moment. I was scared of what others might say or how they might perceive me.
“Do You See What I See” is a song that played during the holiday season. I never took time to look at the lyrics, but it was an amazing reminder that each level of creation could see something in Jesus’ life that is celebratory.
Have you assessed how strong you are? I’m not talking about in a self-righteous, overinflated view of yourself either. I’m referring to taking a few steps back to review your strengths. A strength test will let you know where you are and where you have to go.
